Princess Cut Diamond. Please Help!
Quote this post and reply to it Post#1 @ 08-18-10 , 11:26 AM

Hi everyone! Great to find such a helpful forum!

I am on the cusp of taking the plunge and buying a diamond. I have seen countless round brilliant and princess cuts. Based on her preference I have narrowed it down to a single princess cut which I plan on setting in a trellis setting with side stones. To the eye, the diamond looks beautiful. It's a 1.75 carat, I color, VS2 clarity, excellence polish, and very good symmetry. I'm very happy with the color, size and clarity. The only thing I am worried about is the cut. Since there is no standardized cut to grade princess cut diamonds, I'm a little lost on what I should be looking for. The measurements of this particular diamond are 6.66x6.56x4.96 mm. The table is 66% and the total depth is 75.5%. If anyone has experience with Princess cuts, do these dimensions fall in the realm of an "ideal" cut? I know it's really personal preference but I want to make sure the diamond has maximum fire and brilliance.

I appreciate everyone's help!

It's impossible to go just by the numbers on paper. Have you had the stone tested for light performance? This one did really well.

You can view the actual light performance if you click on the Red Gem Ex Live Report link.
