Looking for advice on this Emerald cut
Quote this post and reply to it Post#1 @ 05-29-10 , 03:53 AM

Hi all,

New to the forums. Been browsing around the past couple of days. I've been looking for a nice emerald cut diamond for an engagement ring and want some feedback from members here.

Here is the diamond in question.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/...ond-1109801.asp

Diamond Details
Item Number: 1109801
Shape: Emerald
Carat weight: 1.00
Cut: Ideal
Color: G
Clarity: VVS1
Certificate: GIA

Depth: 66.0%
Table: 59.0%
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good
Girdle: Thick to very thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 6.94*4.83*3.19
Ratio: 1.44

I have been looking pretty heavily on BlueNile and found some ones that seem ok, numbers wise, but not being able to see it is an issue for me. But, there is a photo of the actual diamond in the link I provided at James Allen (at least it says is a photo of the diamond).

I am kind of torn. I really, really, really want to see the diamond before buying. But, timing is not on my side. I need this ring by the middle of June as that is when I plan on proposing (vacation in California). I have had no luck finding anything to my liking locally and emeralds don't seem to be as popular as other cuts so there are not as many to see locally.

Based on the information at the link...does this Emerald cut seem like a winner? Could I "cut corners" for lack of a better term, on any of the 4 C's when going with an Emerald cut? From reading up here in the Education section, I think I should stick to something with good clarity and color as the Emerald is more susceptible to showing those (obviously cut is still the most important I would think).

Any and all advice/feedback is appreciated! Thanks for your time and sorry for the novel.

Hi JERix!

Welcome
Middle of June is fast approaching, I can feel the rush...
Well IMO, GIA's grading will help you ease your worries,
and at $5300 I think the price is just right.

If you still have enough time, check out the listed engagement rings here, just click 'BUY' or 'Get Quotes' The time is really of essence so just get a diamond ring. Perfect ring size, round cut, simply elegant and whoala!
Keep us posted, and wait for more opinions as well.

'Till then!
