Hi!

Diamond features are so superb that it's the most precious stone on earth.
I'm not an expert that's why I'm wondering, what's the 'second best' or
a stone that could be mistaken( first glance) as diamond or colored diamond..

Thanks!

There really isn't anything which is totally natural and looks like a diamond. Zircon which has been heated to remove it's color has a pretty high refractive index and so looks about as close to diamond as you can get in a colored stone. Colorless sapphire looks good, but won't be mistaken for a diamond since it windows when tilted to about 10 degrees and diamonds have to be tilted to over 45 degrees in order to show any windowing. If you want natural, then diamond is the only game in town.

Hi Michael_E!

I was looking at your Montana Sapphire item, and you're right..
I think colorless sapphire looks so 'composed' and not sparkly..
Anyway, my niece's birthday is on August and she's requesting for something that looks like a diamond,(though I know she's hoping for a diamond) She's turning 13, in advance she informed me not to give her any jewelry based on her birthstone which is Peridot.
I'm really having troubles when it comes to tweens.. Kindda hard to please them.

Thanks for the info Mike!

Cheers!

I don't anything can even come close to a diamond. However, one could use zircon or simulated diamonds in their jewelry if one is looking for cheaper options that give somewhat the same effect. while colorless topaz, is colorless but doesnt have the brilliance that one would want in their jewelry if one looking for diamond alternates.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about this.
Now, I know what to look for, so I might go for a synthetic diamond but for a 13 year old girl, I still think that precious gemstones like montana sapphire, or colorless topaz would be much better.
Good thing I've got one more month to ponder..

Thanks!

Well if that is the case, that you have to buy them for a 13 year old, then even i would agree natural gemstones are much better idea. Gemstones have their own unique beauty, and they are eternal so they can be treasured forever.

For a 13 year old I would suggest a sapphire. They are so much more durable than other colored stones that buying this would up the odds of this piece maintaining it's beauty and providing a fine memory for this 13yr old when she's 40. If you're are looking to keep the cost in check I would suggest buying multiple small stones and setting them in a thinner band. Small sapphires are quite inexpensive and settings for smaller stones are also more reasonably priced. Larger stones in pale or unusual colors are also available at reasonable prices.

I'm coming into conclusion that precious gemstone cannot be considered as simple if I go for s synthetic diamond which on the other hand is expensive, she might run some issues with her friends., and I need to avoid that as much as possible. To think that she doesn't want one particular gemstone, or anything green..
Then you are right.

Thanks Michael_E & nehajindel
