Curiosity killed the cat - or at least got her broke...
I have a pair of old earrings that I would love to find out more about. They come in a worn leatherbox that seems to belong with them and inside the lid is printed Sainson & Morenas (as far as I can make out), fabricants, Grenoble, 5 R.J.J.Rousseau (probably Rue Jean Jacques Rousseau).
Does anyone here know enough about vintage jewelry for this to ring a bell? I have tried Google of course and though there seems to be a jewelry shop at this address it is not by that name.
The earrings are tested as gold but not maked. They have "a green stone in the middle and 8 diamond like stones around the green stone". I got them for $30 on eBay and they sure look pretty after I cleaned them up. But now of course I want to know more :-)
Another puzzle is that one of the green stones looks like rubbish and the other one looks really nice, so one of them has been replaced along the way. At least someone liked them enough to want to replace the stone rather than throw out the earrings. I'll probably replace both stones at some point - after I figured out what the green stone and the diamond like stones are. If they are imitation they are a whole lot better than anything I ever owned before, sparkling and shooting fire all over the place :-)
