Hi,
I am new to this forum and I hope you can help me. I recently inherited some jewelry. Some of them are signed others are not. How do I get a book or find online resources to containing a complete up-to-date listing of designers and their jeweler's mark/maker's mark/hallmark? I tried going to gia.org, but i couldn't find a book of jeweler's mark. The rings in question are:
1.18kt yellow gold, diamonds ring: the mark is a fat, rounded "N" inside a circle & "750".
2.18kt 3color gold ring: the mark is what looks like an "8" & "750".
3.18kt yellow gold, diamonds, rubies ring: the mark looks like the "recycle triangle symbol" the symbol has double outlines but it isn't solid, there's also an "O" &"750".
5.18kt yellow & white gold and pearl filligree (maybe art deco): the mark looks like "YR" it's on opposite side of shank there is "750" and another very small number I can't read.
6.18kt yellow gold & diamond ring:the mark looks like a "ying/yang" it's not encircled & "I" & "750"
7.18kt yellow gold & diamond ring:the mark looks like a "db" inside a diamond &"750"
8.18kt yellow gold link bracelet: the mark has a "star" & "750"
9.18kt trigold puzzle ring: the mark is "L" & "750"
10.18kt necklace: the mark looks like a "spaceship or a bird", there's also something written very small-maybe it says "pedestra"? the crossing of the t is very flamboyant.
11.18kt bracelet: the mark is a "7" inside a box next to "750"

Any help would be appreciated, I have searching for over a month. I did find a book on gold hallmarks by a Mr. Bruton, but its out of print everywhere. thank you for your time.

Hi Giselle1,

I have seen this book, is very old and has gold marks from all the world, try to find this book with some older jeweler, or antique jewelry shop, the book has a brown cover.

I have the book(s). The problem is your descriptions, and you did a good job. The exact type face also is a consideration when looking at hallmarks.

We may can work a deal! You email me next week, and I'll send you the books. The deal is: I get my book back!

I actually have two different ones and you may borrow them both

I found a relitively inexpensive yet accurate book for $10 Canadian. See if you can find it at a local book store. It is called Collins Gem Antique Marks published by HarperCollins Publishers with the most recent update in 1999. It has over 3500 different marks. It might help!

Best of luck
Merlyn

Rather than the maker's mark, the "750" may be the gold content using a european standard. I recall reading that somewhere.

Yes, all the 750 means it is 18k gold.

.750 X 24 (pure gold)=18
or
18/24=.750
