I hope someone can give me some guidance in how much I should be able to sell and get for my diamond ring? I have a 1.5 carat round diamond, EGL certified, F Color, VVSII. What would be a fair value that I should be happy with for the ring? I don't want to be greedy and have unrealistic expectation, but at the same time, I don't want to be taken advantage of. Any help is appreciated. I need the money to help out my parents.
Do you have the additional info on the lab report? Which EGL lab graded the stone?
Honestly, I lost the certificate years ago, not knowing the importance of it. I would pay for another certificate to verify everything but the one jeweler that did see my ring so far, told me I didn't need to do that, he would check it out himself. I did find a receipt for the ring that had some of the information that was on the certificate, such as 7.27 - 7.26 x 4.79 mm, but that is all I found. Sorry I can't give you more information. Should I go appraise this ring before I get another quote from a jeweler? Any help is appreciated.
It's hard to know if they are giving you a fair price if your not sure on the grade of the stone. EGL is not known to be a stringent lab in grading so don't be surprised if GIA gives the stone a lower color and clarity grade.
Thank you both for your response to my questions. I really do appreciate all the advise that you guys have given me. I will definitely go get my diamond GIA certified just to have all the information accurate and hopefully get a fair price.
From being completely lost when it comes to knowing about diamond, I am now a little more educated in it, and therefore know the next step I have to do.
Sorry if I am driving you all crazy with my constant questions. Reading the GIA website, it looks like I would have to remove my diamond from my ring setting, so I would have to give it to a jeweler to do so. In that case, should I trust a jeweler with my diamond to just send it to the GIA lab for me? I assume they have done this many time in the past, so I would worry less doing it myself. But is that a good idea to trust a jeweler with your lose diamond? Or if I go this route, should I go to a reputable chain store and ask them to send it to the GIA Lab for me?
