I recently started looking at diamonds and was wondering what the difference was between diamonds certified by GIA vs. AGS vs. EGL?

Also, all the materials on diamonds have certain percentages and angle degrees the crown and pavilion must have. If the certificates from the respective labs do not list those numbers, would the jeweler necessarily know about what the table area and the crown angle are?

Any and all advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Most agree that GIA and AGS are the more stringent laboratories.
If you get a GIA lab report you will need to have a sarin analysis done as well to get all the information on crown and pavilion.
AGS does give this information, but most of the cutters only send the ideal cut round diamonds to AGS.
So look for a dealer that can provide you with all the information.
You didn't say if you were looking at a round diamond or fancy shape.
We give sarin and brilliancescope information on all the shapes.

Barry,

I happen to notice that you seem to have changed your attitude on DT.

It is my impression that you are jumping on any occasion, big or small, to promote your product. As much as I respect the qualities of your product and of you as a businessman, I must say that this behaviour is irritating me.

Could you please restrain yourself in this ?

If I ever, now or in the future, might get carried away in the same way, I would like someone to stand up to me in the same way.

Live long,

Paul

Paul;

Et tu?

Interesting, curious, and instructive,
the flaming SuperbCert is recently receiving from certain precincts on this
forum.

Yes, we openly promote SuperbCert.
We are justifiably proud of our
product!

If you read and notice carefully,
you will see that our "promotion"
of SuperbCert is not proactive,
(we do not constantly post
unsolicited pictures
of our diamonds in or out of settings);
rather, it is invariably in response
to comments and/or statements
made by other travelers on DT
regarding SuperbCert; which we believe
strongly, need to be clarified,
defended and/or corrected.

If such "promotion" offends and
irritates you, I'm very sorry. We will not
sit idly, if we feel that erroneous
comments are being made about
SuperbCert.

The solace we take from your
(and others) criticism, is that we must
be doing something right.
Certainly the public thinks so.

Best regards,
Barry

I thought the question was about lab reports and the differences.

Not sure if I'm going to kick myself later for getting involved but...

Barry, like Paul, I've also started noticing this and, as a consumer, am starting to feeling vaguely uneasy. I know your reputation, but if I didn't, I might start being turned off by what looks like constant hype. Perhaps even adding some context to your posts would help.
