Help!! Clarity VS. Fluorescence
A diamond, 1 carat, colorless (E), ideal cut. With similar prices, I can afford one of the following two improvements: 1) Clarity: SI2 --> SI1 2) Fluorescence: Strong blue --> None Which I should choose? Put another way, is there visible difference between clarity SI1 and SI2? is there visible difference between fluorescence strong blue and none? Thanks!!! |

It all depends on where the grade setting inclusion is located and what it is. I've seen stones with significant feathers on the girdle and graded as I's which looked better when mounted than SI1's, because the inclusion could be hidden under a prong...not many, but it does happen. You can't judge a stone by it's cert ! Quote:
There is under lighting which causes the diamond to fluoresce. Lighting with significant UV, such as sunlight and fluorescent lighting will cause such a stone to have a blueish tint. I find it very attractive and would prefer that to one with no fluorescence. I think that if you find such a stone more attractive, the lower price would be just a bit more icing on the cake. If you're concerned about what other people think, then I'd go with the stone having no fluorescence, since the higher pricing indicates that the cultural ideal of perfection right now prefers no fluorescence. |

I'd go for the stone with no fluorescence |

Re: Help!! Clarity VS. Fluorescence
Depends on the gradings of SI2, whether it is a weak SI2 or not. Make sure you cannot see anything with the eye and go for No Fluorescence. If you can spot an inclusion, look for a cleaner SI2 or an SI1. I believe having no eye-visible inclusions is more important than fluorescence when the fluorescence does not make the diamond appear 'milky'. |

Re: Help!! Clarity VS. Fluorescence
I would go for no fluorescence, the E color would look blueish under the sun, also if the fluorescence is very strong the diamond will look cloudy or oily. I would personally sacrifice a little more color to get a better clarity. You should buy the one you like and looks good to you. |
