Ring stamped 14K PAL, So confused!
Quote this post and reply to it Post#1 @ 11-24-09 , 11:38 PM

This ring is "supposed" to be a family heirloom. 5 stones..center stone about 4.5 mm. Inside is stamped 14K PAl and then a space and another letter..maybe P or H. Took it to two different jewelers. One said the stones are mine cut and ring is from the 1920's. The other jeweler said the stones are brilliant cut and that the ring is only 15 to 20 years old. I'm so confused. Please help.

I wouldn't worry about the stamp as those letters are the trademark of the company who made the ring. As for the diamonds, there is a huge difference between mine cut diamonds and brilliant cut diamonds. Mine cuts are kind of squarish and lumpy looking and probably not what's in you ring. You may have Old European Cuts since the time frame is about right and they do look more like modern brilliant cuts. If you really want to know, I'd suggest finding a gemologist and have them tell you what you've got. Looking at that picture, I'd be more concerned about the bead tips on the center stone than anything else. They look rather thin and you might want to get them checked out and even re-tipped.
