As this is my first post, hello to every one! I live abroad and I'm visiting south Florida by the end of the month, so I wanted to take the chance and have some hands-on training in gemology, I know there used to be Gem School America in Ft. Lauderdale, but they dont answer the e-mails, or post any phone numbers. Does anybody know if they are still runing? Any numbres or caontact information? Or does anyone knows where else can i take some practical training nearby? Thank in advance for your help, mescobar |

Gemology schools
There are two credible learning insitutions which our industry accepts. The GIA The Gemmological Assn. of Great Britain. The school in Ft. Lauderdale is out of biz. If you just want consumer education, check out the tutorials on Your Gemologist's site. Tell me a little more about what you expect to learn. |

RE : Gem School America
Thanks, I'm triying to get hands on experience. I work at a jewellry store overseas, and thus would like to have better skils in gradig and identifiying simulants. I'm a very adept reader and know a lot of theory, but eventhoug I can look at a lot of diamonds, without someone to guide you it is very hard to know for shure if mi findings are acurate, and so on. I'll be visiting south Florida by the end of October, so I was looking for a place to learn, I would love GIA, but they only travel to Fla. in the first semester Any help will be gratly appreciated. |

Re: Gem School America
I recently took an excellent course from Gem School America ... they taught me how to grade diamonds like a pro. They travel around the U.S. and offer their program in different cities. I know, it's like the best kept secret ... I only found out about it when they sent me a notice that they were going to be in Atlanta, so I jumped on it. I examined lots of diamonds, learned about color, clarity, cut, carat, cost, worked with microscopes, loupes, and all the equipment ... very in-depth and hands-on with a small class an Master Instructor ... then when I finished I earned my Certificate of Diamond Grading. I'll see if I can dig up that info and post it here later. But I think you have to wait 'till they come to your city, then you'll get a notice in the mail. |

Re: Gem School America
That's what I'm talking about ... how in the heck can anybody expect to become good at diamond grading by only studying from the books? I need practical hands-on training with actual diamonds, and a real instructor, like Gem School America offers. If I get the schedule information, I'll post it here. Good day! |
