Which is an 'Eye-Clean' Diamond and Why?
Quote this post and reply to it Post#1 @ 08-06-11 , 09:35 AM

I have been reading a lot on clean-eye diamonds. Diamonds with low clarity grading, however the inclusions are 'hidden' when viewed using ones' naked eyes.

I would like to seek the experts out there to verify my assessment.

I have attached diagrams taken from GIA certs of 3 similar 1.5 carat, ideal cutting and CLARITY SI2 diamonds. Assuming that all the other parameters are equal, which is a 'Eye-Clean' Diamond?

Diagrams at http://randompictures4you.blogsp o...nd-and-why.html

My assessment : I would pick the 1st diamond as the ranking of inclusions are cloud, crystal and then feather since cloud is the least obvious, followed by crystal and lastly by feather. Furthermore, the last diamond has 3 long feathers and the second diamond has several shorter feathers (though at the girdles), the possibility of having obvious inclusions using one's naked eyes would increase.

Please share your views.

You would have to look at them and see which one looks cleaner to your eye. Everyone has a different perspective, but just by looking at the pictures I would pick the second.
If there is not much contrast of the crystal in the center of the third stone I would go for that one instead. But if they are all SI2 they should look more less the same to your eye otherwise they would not get the same clarity grade.
