Tiffany's Salesperson tells me Blue Nile diamonds are NOT as advertised.
HELP - Tiffany salesperson just told me the diamond I just ordered on Blue Nile can't be real/correct as shown on the GIA report. I priced a .8 carat, internally flawless, G color, triple-excellent (ideal) cut, no flourescence, thin to medium girdle, round diamond on Blue Nile for around $6500. The measurements on the GIA cert online corroborate the cut quality. (Yes, yes - I know my eye can't discern the IF and G, but it's my money and my prerogative to get those specs if I so choose. That's not what this question is about.) I decided to price-compare at Tiffany's just to make sure. I figured I would see what they had to offer in a similar price range (under 8k including setting). The guy told me there was "NO WAY" I could get an IF-grade .8 round diamond for $6000, and that people bring him stones "all the time" that don't match up to the GIA or what Blue Nile says they do. Of course, if what he is saying were true, that would mean that BN is committing mass fraud. However, if HE is lying, then he may be breaking the law himself (like DTPA). Is there ANY truth to what this guy was telling me that a stone bought on BN is unlikely to measure up to the specs I saw on the online GIA report?? |

Re: Tiffany's Salesperson tells me Blue Nile diamonds are NOT as advertised.
First you have to get the diamond in question. Many sellers will claim to have a particular stone in hand, but once you go to actually purchase it, it has been sold or is no longer available. IF BN actually has the stone for sale, there's an excellent probability that it will match the cert offered for it, (make sure to have an independent gemologist check it out). If it's not available and something similar is available at a much higher price...well you get the drift. I'd certainly inquire, maybe place the order and see what happens, (I think that BN has a good return policy, so you're only out the time if this doesn't work out). Please make a point of telling us how this turns out, as I think that it's an interesting story. Good luck with it! |
