Hi! What kind of clarity enhancement has been done to the sapphire? Irish |

beautiful ring! I too am curious what 'CLARITY ENHANCED A' means? I see it on the appraisal, but am not familiar with that term used with sapphires? |

The only thing that is really used to enhance clarity in sapphire is molten glass which is forced into any surface reaching fractures, causing the fractures to be less apparent. If it were heated or diffusion treated it would be considered "color enhanced". It looks as if the person doing the appraisal also estimated that the enhancement improved the grade from an I2 to an SI2. I would guess that the A might mean "Added" as in material added to the stone...just a guess. |

Interesting Michael....would this be apparent to the naked eye? Could you see this enhancement with a loupe? Is it an acceptable enhancement for sapphires? I have not heard of this before, how would I know if one of my sapphires were enhanced this way? Wow, alot of questions I just rattled off! Sorry Michael, but you are my colored stone guru!

Since the clarity grade with the enhancement is SI2 and the stone has a fairly dark tone, then the treatment is probably not very noticeable. It should be obvious with a loupe though. Acceptable ? Well that all depends on who's buying it. There's a lot of ruby that's treated this way being sold in lower end pieces, but the people buying are usually not concerned or knowledgeable enough to be concerned about it. This sort of treatment does not enhance the durability of the stone and so these types of stones would need to be examined closely if that's a concern of yours. Your sapphire are probably not treated this way, since you tend to look at your stones pretty closely, and this treatment is pretty obvious under close examination, (even if you can't see the filled area, it often has an unusual "boiling water" look, potentially a color flash and what can look like an unusual scratch on the surface which will run across adjacent facets). I hope that answers your questions Jasmin ! |

Re: 3.65 CT Sapphire and 1.30 CT Diamond Ring reduced
Actually the way I read this is that clarity and colour are expressed as pertaining to sapphire/diamond So clarity for the sapphire is Clarity Enhanced A, whatever it means, and for the diamonds is SI 2 - I2. |
