More sparkle for an Old cut diamond - F color, VS1, 2.13 Ct

Recutting a 2.13 ct OEC to increase its sparkle could be an option if the carat weight loss results in a RB diamond at least 1.75 ct. (a 20% loss in weight). Would it be better to just sell the OEC as is and realize the value of a 2.13 ct older cut stone?

You are correct that a RBC diamond does command more money in the marketplace than old cut diamonds. However, you must have an OEC diamond analyzed and cut by an 'expert' cutter. Otherwise you may not achieve the optimal results you're hoping for. But if you know an expert cutter, than they can advise you as to what you can hope to achieve in terms of improving its color and possibly its clarity as well.

OECs have been growing in popularity for a number of years; those with excellent stats are sought after. If your diamond has high C's already you might consider trying to sell it as is without changing it to a RBC.
Before you do anything make sure you know what you have; send it to the GIA for grading. You can find out how www.gia.edu.
good luck- Irish
