Art Deco Rings
Quote this post and reply to it Post#1 @ 07-05-10 , 07:50 PM

Having completed my new Kitchen renovation...I am thinking it is nowtime to treat myself to something.

I am now really into antique jewelry like vintage 1920's-1930"s art deco
Does anyone have any of thiose fabulous older finds ?

I am researching european cut,vs old mine cut and see many are in platinum or 18Kt gold but saw some in 14kt with like princess cut or trillant sapphires( probbaly mot real).. which made me pause to think those may jsut be replicas.....of older pieces made in recent years maybe 1950's
Anyway just want to drop in ,say hi and see what everyone is up to !

Hi Maven,
I've got a friend who has been collecting these types of settings for about 15 years and still spends about 1/2 of his year traveling around the US buying and selling these settings. Many have stones set into them and a few are open. The problem is that he doesn't have a web site or pictures taken of them, preferring to just drive around and dropping in on potential buyers. If you're interested in something in particular I can ask him if he has anything in your style and price range and if he's in town I can probably get him to drop by here and let me take some pictures of possible candidates for you. The attached image is one of his platinum pieces into which I cut and set a tanzanite for a particular client of his. Let me know your interests and I'll contact him !

Hi Irish, that's a tanzanite at about 7mm if I remember correctly. I cut the stone with an extremely shallow pavilion and a high domed using "apex" facets with no table. It turned out much better than I had hoped it would.
