Last November, I bought a diamond from Robin and Todd Gray of niceice.com, largely on the recommendation of this board. Extraordinarily good service, great price, kudos all around.
At that time, on rockdoc's recommendation, I visited Bill Hoefer to have my diamond appraised. Also an excellent guy with great service.
A friend of mine (also in this area) has since purchased a diamond and would like to have it appraised. Unfortunately, when I visited Bill last November, he was literally packing up to move to Florida.
Do you have any other recommendations for an independent appraiser in the San Jose/San Francisco Bay Area?
It's a shame, but there are only a few professionally trained jewelry appraisers in the Bay area. I'll really miss having Bill Hoefer in San Jose, as I used to send my South Bay inquiries to him.
If you friend doesn't mind a little drive, I can help him out here in Walnut Creek. My phone number is 925 939-4367 and my website is http://www.jewelry-appraisal.com
There are many people who work the counters of jewelry stores or pawnshops who will tell you all the things you want to hear, You asked for an Appraiser and to become an ASA appraiser you have to pass the muster of the professionals. You make your own choice which would you prefer. A Proven expert of an expert who is because he tells he is.
