Appraisal on Tiffany&co Engagement Ring
Quote this post and reply to it Post#1 @ 09-22-10 , 07:28 PM

Hello Ladies and Gentleman,

Would you be so kind and tell me what do you think a fair price is for the following ring?

Description
One Tiffany & Co. platinum and diamond ring, set with one round brilliant cut diamond weighing .41 carat, G color, IF clarity, and ten round brilliant cut diamonds weighting .25 carat total weight, F-G color, VS clarity range. Details available on the Tiffany website: Round Brilliant with Channel Set Band. .

Estimated Retail Replacement Value
$4840.00

Details
The engagement ring will come with the official documents -- a Tiffany & Co. diamond certificate and two copies of the retail replacement valuation in a leather portfolio -- and its original velvet box plus blue Tiffany & Co. box.

I was able to build a ring with a similar specification at bluenile.com for $2850 retail value:

The person that is selling the ring is asking for $2600, but it seems to me it is a high price for this ring.
What do you think?

Thank you,
Ventsi

You can't compare Tiffany and Blue Nile. They are selling different things, even though the goods look the same. Do you get the wedding band too? If you're big on name brand stuff then I'd go with the ring from Tiffany's, if not, well I'd probably still go with the ring from Tiffany's since it less expensive and would have better resale potential, should you ever want to trade in and move up.

maybe it's my computer but are you sure there is a diamond in that setting because the prongs don't seem to be holding anything.

Have to agree with Irish looks like there is not a diamond in the setting and if there is it is far more smaller then what they are describing. There are alot of scammers out there now.
Good Luck

Michael E,

I'm wondering why you wouldn't go with a new ring from Blue Nile. Are their rings poorly made?

Because, while their diamond prices are very competitive, their metal work is dramatically overpriced. In a way, that's a good thing, since it allows people like myself to offer better quality AND pricing on all of the other parts of a ring.
