I clicked on an ad on this site for Superb Cert..and it took me to a porn site! Is this a virus or something?

double check your antivirus software that it is up to date and that your operating system has the latest security updates, there are internet worms that can afffect your browser without even opening email or attachments all you have to do is be online, it allows hackers to have control of your computer through exploiting security glitches . there is one that always directs your browser to porn sites, we had it where i work, it was not too easy to get rid of until you get the microsoft security patches for your version of windows. it is some sort of homepage hyjacker that when it fully embeds itself, it really takes control.

other than that i dont know what to tell ya, but, yikes!!!

another dreadful thought is that someone has hacked the DT server,

i am sure someone is getting to the bottom of this as we speak (type)

If you don't use Internet Exploder... er Internet Explorer, you wouldn't have this problem.

Go right now to:
http://mozilla.org

And download Mozilla or FireFox. You won't regret it! Plus as an ADDED bonus, it comes with a pop-up blocker built-in!!!

And either can be had for US$0.00 or Euro 0.00.

That happened to me to and I am at work! It was very disturbing to say the least! This is a computer that alot of people use and I am not sure of the anti virus software, maybe I should call the IT people and report this?

Yeah...you are expecting to see pretty diamonds and well...your eyes aren't exactly thrilled the next moment!

The thing was...I was using the SBC Yahoo Browser. I AM having a lot of spyware and virus problems, so it could be just my system. I just wanted people to know that this happened, if indeed it was a DT thing (hopefully not!)

I'll look into it further...I'm definitly going to buy a new anti-virus program. The one that came with SBC Yahoo! DSL doesn't seem to work too well.

I recommend using a firewall and also Norton anti-virus with Live Update.
Peerguardian is a great free & simple program that also effectively blocks spyware and other undesireables from getting into your system. I use all three!
To download Peerguardian (it is also great for protecting you while file sharing) go to:

Very interesting, folks! My DH has this goin' on, on his machine -- it started after he'd gone to a couple of free tab sites for guitars. Oh, heavy sigh... Needless to say, he's BANNED from my machine, unless he's checking webmail!

Anyhoooo, has anyone tried Spywareblaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html , which sounds like it's simliar to Peerguardian? Itbit, I've installed Peerguardian on DH's machine, run several virus cleanups on it and removed some stuff by hand... I just know he'll be impatient with the loading time it takes, hence the question on Spyblaster's efficiency.

Also have used SpyBot Search & Destroy (gotta love the names) which has really worked well.

I'm wondering how these sites/pages get the psycho-malware downloads attached to them in the first place. Egads. Surely it's not from the owner of the sites?! This is my curiosity question today...

To give you an idea how common spyware is, I've been on this Internet session for a little over an hour and my Peerguardian log shows it blocked 117
attempted connections to my computer

Itbit...

My Peerguardian never shows anything being blocked. Why is that?

I click on the red hand, then the window comes up, then click "View" then "Status Window." It shows everything Peerguardian has blocked. Peerguardian has to be loaded and running to work. I used the setting that makes it automatically start up whenever I reload Windows.
Also, methlabs.org's forums make for interesting reading. Lots of questions are answered about this nifty free program.

I use both of them and keep them regularly updated. They work great. The joy of blaster is that it stops the spyware from ever getting installed rather than fixing it after the fact.

I finally took DH's machine to have the trojans and viruses removed. There was only one virus and over 50 trojans!

I'd installed Spywareblaster after the fact on his machine (and used SpyBot regularly before) and decided to do Peerguardian as well. Well, DH is a happy-guy once again -- machine is fast, smooth and thus far, no intruders!

As a result of seeing his machine get thrashed, I've installed Spywareblaster and Peerguardian on my machine, too. I tend to mainly hit this site, BTD and eBay and have had no troubles prior. But now I feel safe. "Practicin' safe computin'..."

I may have to try some of these others I'm hearing about! I just ordered my husband a new Dell for Fathers Day/B'day-they are on the same day this year! He doesn't have a clue! I figure since he was kind enough to buy me a new laptop then I could do this for him! He's game crazy! Looks like there is some good info on this thread!
Cool

Hi Star~

I'd sure recommend this stuff, as it's especially as it's all free!

DH took his machine for a "run" through some car/motorcycle sites that previously had personal records for pop-ups per second... And voila! Clean! Not a nasty to be seen. Excellent! We're all happy.
