Hi,
im new here!
I lurked a lot on DT while looking for an engagement ring..it helped a lot!
I found a great ring, proposed, and we are engaged!

just having our first "issue" with the wedding plans..
we havent set a date yet, its going to be autumn 2005 sometime.
the issue is..I have NO best man!
and absolutely no one that can play the part!
I moved to a new city after college, I have no friends from highschool..
I have some good college friends, but they all live far away and we arent that close anymore..its been 10 years since (college) graduation, and my male friends have just kinda drifted away..mainly because I moved to a different city..
a bunch of us from college get together once every few years..but there is no one "close enough" to ask to be my best man..
I just happen to have no close male friends at the moment!
and not only do I not have a best man, I have zero canidates for groomsmen either!

My fiance has several close friends from her childhood, and they live somewhat close by..
she has one friend who she asked to be her maid of honor right away!
thats all well and good..
but, she hasnt asked any other friends to be bridesmaids, because I have no one for "my side"..just me..

Now my fiance is worried that I dont have a best man..we arent too concerned that *everything* be absolutely traditional, but still..she wants a MOH and would like bridesmaids too..

I thought that maybe we could just not have a "wedding party" at all..
but thats not fair to my fiance..
she already asked her friend to be the MOH, and I dont want to take that away..

so im looking for ideas!
this is the first wedding for both of us (we are both early 30's)
so we have no wedding experience..
the wedding is going to be small, only 50 guests.(thats everyone we know!
we both have very small families.

so far we have a bride, groom and the MOH in the wedding party..
there could be a few bridesmaids too..but the groom has no one!
any ideas?
thanks,
Mike

Mary,
yes, there is my Dad..but im not sure if that would be "too weird"..
I know there are no hard rules!
but..I dont want to ask "just anyone"..like a co-worker..
because I would rather have no one at all than "just a body" to "fill the part"..
that would feel too wrong..
I cant have a virtual stranger as best man..
I do have some co-workers that I consider friends..but not "close enough" to ask...

no, I have no brothers or cousins..
no relatives at all that could work except my Dad..
having my Dad as best man seems a bit awkward to me, but I would do it if I need to..
thanks,
Mike

Nobestman, my ex-father-in-law was the best man at my wedding. It really wasn't weird at all. If you have a good relationship with your father than I think that is the perfect choice. My ex had a couple best friends that he could have chosen for his best man but wanted his father so the friends were groomsmen. Nothing wrong with asking your dad, after, you have know him longer than anyone else except your mom! lol. Good luck

Do you have a close female friend or family member? You could also have a female Honor Attendant in place of a Best Man. This is done sometimes, and vice versa, the Bride can have male Honor Attendants or attendants.

Usually, your female Honor Attendant/Best Maid/Best Matron/Best Groomswoman (whatever you choose to call her) would either wear what the bridesmaids are wearing, or wear a dressy black or black and white dress.
