Ok, one area my fiancee and I haven't looked into yet are the flowers and decorations needed for the church ceremony. Are there any sources online that show pictures so we can get some ideas? Are a lot of flowers necessary (we would like to keep the costs on this part of the wedding down)? Is decorating the church something I need to hire a florist to do at the actual site?
Really need help and advice on this area. Thanks so much!

I am not sure you will need a florist to decorate a church, do you have a friends that are crafty? Someone to help you? Flowers are expensive however if you choose something simple maybe it would be cheaper.
I am not really sure about this though.

Try the following:

theknot.com
wedding channel.com

There are tons of sites.

Good luck let us know how you are coming along!

Hey,

One idea if you wanted to do your own to save some $$ is something that a friend of mine did...

She wanted for her bouquets, just simple plain roses with the stems wrapped in satin ribbon...the Florist wanted a TON of money to do it...SO she found out that you can buy wholesale flowers through Sam's club online and bought flowers to the tune of like 100-150 long stemmed roses for like $80 -$100 total...and that's what we carried! They have lots of colors.

I have used this service to order flowers for other special occasions (baby showers, bridal showers, dinner parties, etc) because it's so inexpensive and the roses are beautiful! They come boxed via Fedex!

You don't have to have a florist do the chuch but many people do - you are at least responsible for having it done, that not something that the church takes care of normally...Unless you get married at Christmas like I did and then the chuch will be full of greenery, poinsettas, and a tree to boot! We didn't have to do anything!

Good luck and have fun with it!

Check out this site as well.

http://www.freshroses.com/packages.html

$390 for 16 bunches (400 stems) standard roses, 5 bunches of filler, 5 bunches of greens, and FedEx priority overnight delivery. Available in bridal white, bridal pink, dark red and bright red.

The only catch is, you have to arrange them yourselves. So if you've got the time, or someone who wants to volunteer their time to help ya out, there ya go.

If other brides are getting married on the same day as you then the cost of the decorations and flowers are usually shared.

My suggestion is to ask the minister or priest what the standard protocol is for their church.

Flowers are one area where you can defintely save money. Think of alternatives to fresh flowers (what time of year are you getting married) Like raffia and wheat bundles tied with ribbons attached to the end of the pews. Is there a local vocational college near you that has a floral design program? The students might be looking for projects, and the department may sell student work at a discount.

Table decorations? Float one large lovely blossom in a shallow glass dish on each reception table--can find those glass dishes at the dollar store.

You get the idea.

Wow, thanks everyone for all the great ideas. I'll definitely look into all the suggestions.
BTW, I am getting married in November, if that makes a difference on what flowers I should go for.

Ribbons, bunting, and runners all look great and can elimiate the need for a lot of flowers.
