mtorres00, I had a beautiful 2 carat D colored Oval for 7 years. It was stunning but just as with any stone that sticks out over the finger, it was difficult to find a band to fit it. I had a band made to go up against it and had it soldered to it and it made a nice set but thinking back even more, I just like the RB shape most of all.
When you really love something, such as a certain shape, you'll make it work, I feel. I think all in all, I just like the RB better and it took wearing other shapes to make that all the more obvious
I think I'd really have to say heart. A woman I know has a Tiffany heart solitaire around the 1.5-2 carat mark I think, and for the money they paid for it, it does absolutely nothing for me. I'm a huge fan of the classic 3-stone in round brilliant.
I don't think I'd refuse any of them, but I think heart-shaped diamonds are really for young girls. They're just too cutesy. I cannot imagine a middle-aged or older woman wearing one in an engagement ring.
I have some oval gemstones, but unless it's a 3-stone oval ring, that doesn't do anything for me, either. It's neither here nor there. Princess cuts may be de rigeur, but I think they're only so-so because the remind me of a box. When they're turned around like a baseball diamond, though, they're much more interesting. I'll wear round earrings and maybe a pendant, but I also think RB rings are boring.
This may be because of my age (54), but I think elegant pears make the best pendants, and a beautifully-proportioned marquise is the best engagement ring. For those of us with stubby fingers, it lengthens them in a way others cannot. Emerald/radiant cuts are beautiful, too.
Geez...I never knew I was so darned picky!
I have been reading DT for a long time and finally registered (go me!) . Everyone has such great opinions and BEAUTIFUL jewelry. This is a hard poll to vote on because I love ALL diamonds. However, I voted for Princess or Radiant. Mainly because everyone I know has one. They seem so common to me.
I don't care for marquise. Some well cut ones look great, but if I have to choose a least favorite - that is it. Usually, they are poorly cut to maximize length spread, and you end up with the dead bowtie. The ones that I like tend to be a little shorter on the l x w ratio, and set horizontally.
I like pears if they are on the fat side...never really cared for them before, but they are growing on me.
I have pear shape blue / green sapphire 19 ct. dont have diamonds
It was hard for me to choose the right catagory to vote in. Pears are definetly my least favorite and ovals are my favorite and they were in the same group. I choose that group when voting. My second least favorite is emerald - I want fire sintillation brilliance - the rainbow effect. The emerald just does not have that. I also like the heart shape I guess I am too romantic and sentimental. My jeweler is going to a show in Las Vegas this week and bringing me back a larger diamond. An oval if possible, I have a 3 ct but I want a 5-6 ct and have it set with hearts as side stones. Looks like I am in the minority with the hearts! lol
Love OMC, OEC and cushion, not too keen on Marquise and Princess/Emerald don't really have enough of a sparkle for me.. Having said that I got a radiant cluster not long ago which (IMO) has a similar problem but the diamonds are a lovely yellow colour so (personally) I feel like it gives them more depth and character.... then again if someone is offering I'll take ANYTHING!!
I used to hate RB's because they were so boring and everyone has one. But I've found in the right setting - I too can like an RB. I originally wanted a heart e-ring but then decided against it - it would be better as a right hand ring or pendent. I love square cushions, not rectangles -ewww. I like princess cuts - I used to want a princess until I discovered cushions. I love a good pear -but it depends on the cut - I only like the fat pears with a medium length - cut any different and I think they're ugly. Emerald cuts are ok - seen some nice settings but generally they don't do it for me. ANDDDD i'd have to say my least favorite cut that as of now I'd probably never wear is the Marquise. They just don't strike my fancy but my sister has a Marquise e-ring and lovessss it. To each his own!
