My co-worker just became engaged and got a whopper of a ring. Stats are 2.5ct elongated cushion (F, VS1). The setting is a custom-made to resemble an antique ring. The problem is, she is constantly hitting the stone on her desk, etc. because it is set so high on the prongs. I personally think it would look more in line with the antique feel of the ring if the stone were set lower anyways. Any opinions or suggestions I may pass along? Thanks! |

First, that is a beautiful ring. I can understand her difficulty with day-to-day wear. I don't know what the structure under the center stone is, but if possible, maybe the jeweler could drop the stone down to the level of the circular surround and either prong-set or bezel-set it. I have attached a few pictures to give you an idea. This first one is from www.precisionset.com and is prong-set. |

Here's one from www.faycullen.com that shows a bezel-set stone. |

my opinion
Hi! I think you are right about suggesting she get the center diamond lowered. The bezel set is more practicle and probably more secure, but the lower prong set is my vote because it looks more like what she has. |
