I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas about an Art Deco Theme wedding. I am getting married in an art gallery, and we want to respect the 1920-1940's feel of the space.....any ideas???

i love the Art Deco period.
Well of course you can get a wonderful slinky Erte-type gown to wear, a Deco period ring----how about a pair of greyhounds--they were often a theme in Deco art....
Go for muted colors: salmons, dusty greens, maize....
You could do all sorts of cool things with the cake.

just a few ideas off the top of my head.

I too love the art deco period and would love to see what you work out but I have no suggestions for you. I think you should rent some art deco period movies and check out the accents in restaurants and clothing for formal events. When are you getting married?

Hey you could ask people to dress from the period. I love that idea.

the wedding is in March...and I think we are going for a "hint" of deco since the gallery already has art at decoration. I like the idea of renting movies to see what they wore back then. Thanks for the tip!

I recently went to a wedding where they did their pics in black & white from the professional photographer. It looked really, really cool. They did go to extremes and asked all the guests to wear black and white so the photos would be very dramatic... I wouldn't think that is necessary, but it might be cool to get some of your professional pics in black & white to capture the art deco feeling.

you don't want the stark black and white effect because the shading is what makes black and white pics so cool but, I definitely think you should have some black and white pics. My sister did both and it was cool, I'm planning on having both.

I did a fairly art deco inspired wedding last month (although it wasn't totally true to form, it was fun)... vintage inspired necklace and dress pins, vintage celluloid comb, ivory french lace sheath, lace mantilla, marcel waves, red lipstick and pale skin, Rennie Mackintosh art deco font theme, letterpressed invitations, 1920's lodge, love knots, feathers, pearls, martinis, jazz... just a few things.

Black and white and geometry were very big in that era, and definitely do some pics in black and white. Here's something I pulled from my files:
1920's wedding

The 40's is pushing another era altogether... a little more conservative considering. You might want to check this out as well.

Good luck.

Yes, that's my wedding but I don't have any pics digital yet. Sorry. The gown was great in the wind and very comfortable. I loved it more than I thought I would. Thank you for the compliment.

Here is what I gave my mother and BMs to wear:
Vintage 1930's rhinestone dress clips and pin. Really beautiful.
