It seems to me that most of the people taking part in this thread
fall in (2), but many 3's exist and are young companies (~1 year old) which consumers should treat cautiously.

Jb:

You made a point of noting that many of the #3 stores should be treated with trepidation by the consumer, yet you do not make the same point about BlueNile (which you categorize as big business). I think it is a point worth mentioning that this iteration of BN has only been around for several years, and should not deserve consumers trust any more or less than #3 stores.

I know that as a consumer it can be helpful knowing that the vendor you're dealing with has been around for a while, but like any big ticket purchase, I say caveat emptor.

Besides, I think it is more important to get to know a vendor and develop a trust, rather than blindly assuming he/she is the cat's ass just because they'be been around for years.

I'm sure there are poor jewellers who have been around for years, and conversely, every good jeweller has to start sometime.

Proponent of verse...

Well GG,

I guess you don't like that poem.

I've always remebered it as:

a) the shortest published poem I've ever read; and

b) right on the money; whether you quibble over experience coming with age or not.

Me personally, I've known lots of people who may not have what would be called "experience" by some, but they've aged well and have been very wise.

I have to agree. I love to go to the farmer's market. Most of the vendors know me by name. Most are older. Their experiences are limited to what grows from the ground. They are not articulate folks. Not educated in higher learning...not well traveled. They are by far the wisest most sensible folk I have EVER met.

I'm not knocking experience. It makes for a great conversationalist. But, it is only w/ age that wisdom comes from your experinces. Make sense? I know an awful lot of people who never learn from their experiences. It is the wise ones that do.

I can't find the thread or the post - but someone said that BN & Modera have raised their profit margin.......?????????? HUH....Interesting....... at the same time? Might be worth pursueing. Especially after reading the thread about the supplier and the question about not listing stones.

A Sothebys executive is facing some (at the very least) heavy fines. It seems that there was collusion between Sothebys and the other major auction house to raise consignor and/or buyers premium rates at the same time.

Iceman, I would like to know what your reasoning is beyond pursuing this. So jbbb got himself snagged up in a lie - you already pointed that out! More than once. Are you pursuing it to embarass him? You keep justifying yourself in your posts so part of me thinks you already know that you're beating a dead horse.

43, all I'm saying is that I prefer that people be judged on the content of their posts; their honesty and reason, than on their age. I am a little sensitive to age arguments.

JBBB is still insisting that his story sticks. I have to admit, I'm a little tired of it too.

You are very young....but smart enough to realize it! You are not who we are refering to. You are very articulate for your age

I don't think age itself is the important point. What about young people who have had many experiences and have chosen to learn from them? It's the experiences and what you take from them that matter, not how many years it took you to have them. I know an awful lot of people who never learn from their experiences too, doesn't matter how old/young they are.

I, like Em, can be somewhat sensitive about the 'young people are idiots' school of thought (yes, that is an exaggeration, no I don't think you think we are idiots ). Some of us have had experiences that people twice our age haven't had, and hopefully never will. And we choose to learn from them. Making us wise. Or so we've been told...

Sincerely,
GemGoddess, (getting down from her
now)

Lets get back to this diamond that does not seem to exist!

jbbb ~ could you produce the sarin? The cert.? The fedx slip?

Why, Im still hung up on the time period and all the confused customers that email me.
------------------------------
On the Blue Nile Site~

When will you receive your order ?

To help you plan when to expect your order, you'll notice a "usually
ships in" duration listed in the product details for each item. This is
the approximate number of days required to process and package
your order for shipment. Place your order before noon Pacific Time
on a regular business day (Monday through Friday), and your order
will begin processing that day. For example, if before noon you order
an item that ships in 1 business day, it will ship the same day. If
your order is placed on a holiday, a Saturday or Sunday, or after
noon Pacific Time on a regular business day, your order will begin
processing the following business day.

-------------------------------
Did you read the part on "your order will begin
processing the following business day. " !

You see, its this way. I had BN hold a diamond for me (called in as a customer)

and it was still posted ?

All I can say is it would be in your best interest to come up with some proof !

?????

1.I don't believe the diamond existed ( it was not listed)
2.If it did exist then you bought it before you started jacking us around to see if you got a deal after the fact.
3.You time periods on how they ship don't make sense, and supports #2.
4. Then the prices were so far off the BN today prices ???????
5.We have not seen any sarin report, cert. or fedx receipt for you to prove your point.

Im just trying to bring things out in the open so the consumer doesn't think that they will get a great deal from BN and fall in the
same trap.

Just my 2 cents
The Iceman

First- my comment on the grades of internet companies was not to say big is
better, but to say there are a separate
types of companies which have plusses and minuses- nothing more. They also have different services they can offer and the
economies of these service are different at bigger and smaller ones.

As for BN's policy of taking diamonds off
the web and on hold, would you agree to the following test to decide whether what you or I have said is true or not ?
Tommorrow I will scope out
a small set of diamonds for sidestones
for my ring and email the group the
info on the stones so they can look
at BN for all the world to see. Then
on tuesday I will ask BN to hold them
for me and we'll see if they disapeer
from the net or not, would this make
you convinced of that policy ? seems
like a foolproof test to me...or
do you still think I am a spy for BN ?

Second, as for more proof, tomorrow (at work) I will gladly post the sarin which was sent to me in digital format. I will also gladly post the receipt from BN (I'll have to scan it so perhaps by late monday/tuesday). I'll have to check
if there is a fedex 'slip' (again this at work), I have the box which should have
some info on it.

As Brad said in his post- if you don`t believe I ever bought the stone why are you continuing on ???

I'm sorry for the confusion, Brad. What I mean is that Iceman has pointed out several times that jbbb has indicated he has the diamond in hand, when in fact it is pretty much impossible to get a diamond from Blue Nile the same day.

To test BN's policy of taking diamonds off the web I
have found 2 diamonds which I will ask BN to put on hold:

0.28 carat
G cut
SI1
VG/G pol/sym
GIA
$457

0.28 carat
G cut
SI1
G/G pol/sym
GIA
$469

They are posted on BN.
Once I have heard back from Iceman and any other person that
they have seen them on BN I will call BN and ask them
to put them on hold and they will dispear from the site.

the sarin can be found at:
http://www.diamondring.com/forums/s...ead.php?t=19611

i was testing posting images over there and this board won`t let you post the same image twice to the board (it has some sort of automatic filter which warns you).

let me know iceman if you want to put your "research" to the test about BN's policy on holding diamonds....

jbbb,

You could email Ice or post the FedEx tracking number and he/they/anyone can check it at the www.FedEx.com site. This could end this thread once and for all.

Just another thought.

actually that thought crossed my mind, but given how verbally hostile iceman is I am not so keen on giving out my personal address + information to him
or making it public knowledge for that matter. his postings here and on this board make me think he isn`t the most stable person in the world and has some ego issues which get in the way of some potentially useful advice he could give...

It was sort of border line sad. Especially if this stone was meant for an engagement ring - normally a happy time.

But entered into the twilight zone when fed ex & blue nile had a mind meld (sorry to mix my metaphors so to speak) at 8:00 pm PST. And then the disappearing BN stones challenge. Sometimes truth (or lack there of) is stranger than fiction.

Quote this post and reply to it Post#174 @ 08-20-02 , 11:29 AM

Since shipping has been a topic on this thread I thought I would post some shipping prices from the current price list. I will not say which company but it is a very popular one for the jewelry industry.

This is for 1 pound or under package, residential delivery is more and so is international. I quoted two prices as it depends how you pay your bill.

Overnight
PackageValue Shipping cost (one way)
$5,000 $26.00/28.00
$10,000 $37.00/41.00
$20,000 $59.00/67.00
$50,000 $150.00/170.00
