Hi everyone, After reading in this forum for the last month, I have purchased a diamond from a regular poster here. Now I need to find an appraiser in my area before it gets here! Can anyone recommend an appraiser in the DFW area? |

Thanks for the referrals Dave! After a little bit of calling around, I was able to get the number of a lady who appears to be the _only_ independent appraiser in the area. She is not available until July. I'd like to get the appraisal done before my return window is up, so I called a local jeweler that was listed in the yellow pages under "appraisals." Well, he chewed me out for about 5 minutes about buying from the Internet, and at one point actually told me that unless there was a sale to be made he would not do the appraisal. Is this a common attitude? I understand his frustration, but I think that he shouldn't advertise under "Appraisals" if he isn't willing to perform them. Now I'm a little hesitant about calling any other jewelers that advertise appraisals. Is this a common attitude? Am I way off base for asking them to do the appraisal for me? |

Looks like you're exactly right. I just got off the phone with someone listed in that database, and she was more than happy to have my business, even if it was just an appraisal on a pending sale. The jeweler that chewed me out this afternoon used to be my favorite jewler in town. I had even referred a couple of friends to them. When it came to buying a diamond, I just couldn't justify spending 50% more in his store than I could buy for online. Now he'll get _none_ of my business. He has plenty of competitors. |

Pete- Sorry you run into that guy. Most jewelers are not that unhappy. Don't be afraid to call more jewelers. Remember, you don't have to listen to BS. Just hang up on the morons and call the next. I am in Tulsa and would be more than happy to help you. 5 hours is too long to drive for an appraisal. But if no one will help you in Dallas, come on up. Ya just missed the US Open. |
