Rodentman, or anyone else who may remember this kind of watch: I've got a question about my watch. I vaguely remember Caravelle watches such as this from the Sixties. It says 'Caravelle waterproof' on the face. It has a second hand and you wind it. It keeps good time. It is set in a sterling cuff bracelet with a good quality turquoise and coral cab on both sides. I bought it for $45 at a second-hand store. It looks good with my Native American bracelets and rings. Do you know anything about Caravelle watches from this era? I assume that it was a common low-end to medium-end watch. Any information would be appreciated. |

isnt Caravelle a subsidiary of Bulova? |

Blast from the past - I had a gold Caravelle watch while I was in high school, late '70s. And I seem to remember it costing ~ $60. That's my recollection anyway. I really liked that watch. [edited to add: I also seem to remember that it said "Bulova" on it too...] [2nd edit: looks like Jasmin had that idea too! Yours is a nice watch, Itbit. I just saw the side-view you posted. Very pretty and unusual] |

I think it might be...I think my mother wore Bulova and Caravelle watches when I was a kid. Strangely enough, the face of this watch looks so familiar. It brings back amorphous childhood memories. |

I just realized: How rude of me to snoop around in a thread that is clearly titled "Rodentman". I feel as though I just went through his sock drawer or something....

Actually, I have only half a sock drawer. Caravelle was indeed made by Bulova and I vaguely dismember when they first came out, but little else about them. Low to medium low end would probably describe them best, but that doesn't mean it will have a short life, just that servicing them is likely to be not cost defective. I really want a 60-70 vintage Spaceview. I can get one for about 1K, but they are not restored to original accuracy and are quite expensive to despair. |

Thank you Rodentman and all who have responded :-) My sock drawer is full of mismatched socks & sometimes it drives me crazy. |

Just to clarificate: I am a below the knee amputee, so I leave one sock on my pathetic, peripatetic, peregrinating and pathetic prosthetic for quite some time. Hence my socks last twice as long and thus I have only half a sock drawer. BTW since my legs don't match I don't much care if my socks match either. But the metal of my watch matches the metal of my ring on that hand. I do have some taste. |

Hm. I was considering that. Underwear drawer? |

My quirk is that I hate white underwear. My underwear drawer is full of blue and green underwear. |
|
|
I am sorry, but I am not comfortable discussing the contents of my underwear drawer. Or of my underwear itself. |

Say no more RM.... Me too Itbit!! They HAVE to be colors, and have to be 100% cotton. String bikini, never a thong. (Too much information?) |

Rodentman: eBay has lots of Spaceviews from $46 to $700. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...&category=31387 I remember the watch well, it came in SS as well as GF, it was an Accutron, but less formal than the conventional Bulova Accutrons, which have become somewhat of a collectors item. In 1966 I bought a Longines Ultronic, which was the same principle as the Accutron, they both used tuning forks. I wore it on a daily basis for over 30 years with no more service than a yearly battery change. It still runs great, love the watch, but it resides in a display case next to some the more exotic stuff I've acquired. I still wear it about one day a week. |
