I've been following this board for a month or so now, thank you all for helping me understand some important aspects of purchasing an engagement ring. I would like to visit a few shops to actually see these beautiful rocks, would you have any recommendations for shops in the greater Boston area?? |

Barmakian Brothers . . .
...in the Jeweler's Exchange in Downtown Crossing. But do call first for their hours. They are not open many evenings. And they are upstair with the "real" jewelers--not among the scary street-level multi-vendor shops! We got my engagement ring there upon the recommendation of several friends. We're one happy group when it comes to our stones, their prices and the service! dd |

My husband got my ring at DePrisco's. But my recommendation is only work with Jack if you go there. He's patient to walk you through the many cuts and sizes and colors without pressure to buy. We actually had many recommendations for Barmakians, but we had experience to go their twice. Both times where we were blown off I think because we both looked like teenagers. Their attitude had made us very unhappy, but I've heard great things from my other coworkers. But my resentment will probably live forever. Never offend a woman. Those are my two cents.

hmmm...
Mokulen--I guess my fiance and I have to accept that we DON'T look like teenagers anymore, as much as we might like to think otherwise . . . Ha Ha! Your experience underscores a pet peeve of mine. Since I moved here a year ago, I have found that the quality of service I receive in stores is directly proportional to how "dressed up" I am. Now I'm not saying that the other places I've lived are perfect havens of customer service, but my experience in Boston has been that image is a bit more important. We were in business attire when we went to Barmakian since we both work in Downtown Crossing! You've given me something to think about . . . DePrisco as also highly recommended to me . . .we just never got there because we found what we wanted at BB. I'm glad to know of another good shop in town. Take care, dd |
