I've seen this report a couple of times and have seen some jewelers rely upon it to give me prices.

How reliable is the Rappaport spread sheet as a basline for determining the value of certified diamonds? What assumptions exist behind the report and its values? Any pitfalls I need to be aware of?

Thanks for the alternatives. I spent a lot of time at pricescope, and it apparently has quite a lot of info that you can use as a cross-section of the diamond market.

However, I'm just trying to figure out what are the limitations of the Rappaport Report. My understanding is that an assumption behind their pricing is a GIA certification, which is the most respected. Also, this is of course a report put out by brokers, for brokers. Those assumptions would tend to increase the price, all other things being equal.

What other info on the Rap report is there to know? For example, how valid are their groupings of diamonds by carat weight? Are they specific enough?

Oldminer and JBacon,

I don't think Leonid is saying that the Rapsheet is based on AGA. He is saying that the pricescope price stats are average prices for the diamonds in the pricescope database and that the cut divisions in the pricescope price stats are based on AGA plus a separate group for H&A stones.

Thannks leonid.

What % of stones (say 3/4 to 1 ct.) in your database have an AGA cut grade assigned to them? You must digest a lot of data over there!
