This showed up in todays paper. I don't know how often it is distributed, but found it interesting that it popped up just when I was searching for a stone. (How did they know?) I assume customers read stuff like this all the time and was hoping a few of the experts and others would pick apart the article a bit. There are many scattered threads touching on most of what is said here, but having a concentration on one thread would be nice. I have also seen examples (pictures)of most of the diamonds scattered on DT, would anyone like to paste some of the ones mentioned in the article below on this thread?
Thanks in advance and please go easy on the "newbie" as I have lurked here for over a year now, just finished reading every post, and believe I am ready to try to contribute.

From the special advertising section in todays paper: (no access to scanner right now, so I'm copying it from the "Trentonian Newspaper"

"Many grooms selecting 'signature' diamonds cuts"

Choosing the diamond engagement ring she is sure to treasure has never been more exciting for more and more of the world's leading diamantaires have created beautifully crafted, inventive, new "Signatue" diamond cuts. Original yet timeless "Signature" (or branded) diamonds are specially cut to unleash the maximum amount of sparkle and brilliance from a diamond.

Stampped with the designer's assurance of quality (often laser inscribed with a trademark and/or serial number), these specialty cuts will provide the groom-to-be with a sense of cofidence in buying his diamond.

Should his bride-to-be want to stand out in a crowd, these unique stones are sure to capture the attention of many.

Following is a sampling of today's most intriguing new "Signature" cuts:

The Ashoka Diamond:
The Ashoka diamond is an oblong antique cushion cut that can only be produced from long rough stones that are three carats and larger. With their unique charma and old-world distinction, rings crafted from the Ashoka Diamond immediately feel like treasured antiques.

The stone's namesake comes from the revered Buddhist warior Ashoka, who reigned as king of the Maurya Empire in India from 273-262 B.C.E. Ashoka's virtues of honesty, compassion and benevolence were renowned and his messages of peace and love were inscribed on pillars and rocks throughout the kingdom, many of which are still in existence today. The Ashoka Diamond is distributed exclusively by the William Goldberg Diamond Corporation. For more information or to find the nearest retail location, call 888-827-2927

Asprey & Garrard Eternal Cut:
Many of the greatest diamonds have passed through the Aspery & Garrard workshops including the Cullinan and the Koh-I-nor. Choosing an Asprey & Garrard diamond draws on centuries of expertise. Asprey & Garrard unveiled the Eternal Cut, a new diamond cut pattented worldwide and designed exclusively for Asprey & Garrard.

With 81 facets and a unique petal design around the culet, the Eternal Cut creates a softer briliance. Each Eternal Cut diamond is lasered with the stone's GIA report number. For more information, call 800-883-2777.

The Elara Diamond:
The Elara Diamond, a perfectly square-shaped diamond with cut corners, was the first gemstone to be awarded a U.S. copyright Registration for "Creative Authorship."

The design for the Elara diamond was created in the late 1980's by Johan D'Haene of Antwerp.

Seeking a precise and brilliant new diamond shpae, D'Haene resolved to "Square the Circle," using the model of a round briliant diamond to achieve a square yet brillliant diamond cut with exacting proportions and a fine finish. Eleara diamonds are limited in production to unusually high color and clarity standards. Information regarding Elara diamonds or Elara diamond retailers can be obtained by calling 888-397-7627

The Escada Cut:
The Escada Elite Version 18-carat white gold ring features a 1.26 carat "Escada Cut" diamond in the center of a heart-shaped setting with pave surrounding the mounting. Exclusively and originally cut with 97 facets, the "EscadaCut" is a 12-sided dodecagonal cut hosting a unique multiplicity and geometry of facets, cut to radiate light and fire from every andgle and emitting a signature star pattern from its culet.

The Escada Diamond collection is available at select Escada boutiques including New York, Beverly Hills, Chicago, San Francisco, Palm Beach, Dallas, Costa Mesa, Las Vegas and Palm Desert. For more information call 800-869-8424.

Hearts on Fire Diamonds:
Hearts on Fire starts with only the finest rough diamonds available.

In fact, less than 1 percent of all gem-quality diamonds are selected to become a Hearts on Fire Diamond. A Hearts on Fire Diamond takes four times longer to create than other diamonds (?), as it is painstakingly and precisely cut to the most exacting standards in the world.

When finished, a Hearts on Fire Diamond reflects 98% of the available light from the diamond to your eyes, revealing the fire of all the colors in the spectrum.

The explosion of light emanating from each Hearts on Fire Diamond makes them appear larger than other diamonds of the same size.

The Hearts on Fire Diamond is available nationwide at authorized Hearts on Fire retail stores. Call 1-877-PERFECT for information or store locations.

The Lazare Diamond:
The Lazare Diamond, The World's Most Beautiful Diamond (TM), is the perfect diamond jewelry choice to help celebrate any special occasion.

Each Lazare Diamond is cut to ideal proportioins, resulting in the optimum refraction and reflection of light, thus giving a Lazare Diamond its exceptional beauty and sparkle.

Using advanced laser technology, the Lazare logo and six-digit serial number are inscribed on the girdle of the diamond, serving as proof of authenticity and guaranteeing the buyer that he's purchased a stone of the highest quality standards. Simply put, "The fire and sparkle of an ideal cut Lazare Diamond has no equal as a gift of love." For further information about the Lazare Diamond and to locate... www.lazarediamonds.com

The leo Diamond:
The Leo Diamond stands alone as the most brilliant diamond in its class. It is the first diamond ever to be measured and certified for superior brilliance using state of the art optical technology.

The Leo Diamond features a unique 66-faceted patented cut that maximizes the brilliance of the diamond. The Leo Diamond was developed by Leo Schachter the World's Diamondaires (TM), the largest producer of fine diamonds in the world.

It's the first branded diamond you can ask for by name with absolute certainty that you have made the right diamond purchase decision.

The Leo Diamond is available exclusively at Kay Jewelers www.diamondaires.com

The Rand Diamond:
Rand Diamond is the world's first diamond with a traceable history and the first to offer a "Zero Tolerance Precision Cut." Each facet angle is perfectly symmetrical ensuring maximum levels of light refraction and reflection which creates unsurpassed sparkle. RANDS's unique "birth certificate" called a Provenance Report, tracs the diamond from the mine through its cutting factory to the consumer.

It educates diamond buyers about what comprises quality and value in their diamond and assures that the diamond is natural in origin, unenhanced by any treatment, cut to the highest standards and comes from a legitimate source (meaning the earth??). Info 800-223-6279.

The Royal Asscher Cut:

Today's Royal Asscher, cut exclusively in Amsterdam by the Asscher family, embodies classic yet contemporary allure with its unmistakable opulence and warmth.

The House of Asscher is the oldest and most respected cutting name in theoldest diamond cutting center of the world.

The Asscher reputation for excellence brought King Edward VII to Asscher to cut the largest rough diamond ever found, the Star of Africa, which was 3105 carats. Despite the popularity of the Asscher cut, World War II nearly wiped out the family business, and the style became difficult to find.

The royal Asscher Diamond is the Asscher family crest, symbolizing 150 years of expertise and brilliance.

There is only one authentic Royal Asscher. M. Fabrikant & Sons is the sole distributor for the Royal Asscher in North America (Carried by a couple of the DT members). Info 800-432-8895

Call me cynical, but...

It seems to me that some writer needed to fill up space, so he (or she) made a list of several branded stones he could think of, and simply copied some of the marketing language from the brochure and/or website of each.

The article doesn't really say all that much, other than that diamond brands do exist.

Still, it's a start for anyone near Trenton...

It's advertising

It's from a "special advertising" section, a point the publication took pains to state.

"News articles" like this consist solely of material which is supplied and edited by advertisers who choose to be featured in special supplements.

The newspaper assumes no responsibility for the content, nor has it even researched it.

This is not news, rather it is copy consisting of press releases. The paper provides the "teaser" that's all.

I write this kind of stuff for manufacturers in technical magazines and trade papers.

The manufacturers are notified by the publications that they are planning a supplement, and then they decide if they want to be featured.

At a price.
