Just something to compare with:

I have a second hand ruby ring - 18ct gold, good quality oval ruby centre stone (approx. half to three quarters of a carat) with small side diamonds (8 stones, 2 points each). It cost £350 about 6 years ago, so the cost for your band now, around £1000, sounds OK, to me at least.
