Is my diamond real or fake?
My fiance and I recently purchased an engagement ring from a pawn shop. I am looking for a way to tell if the diamond is real. The ring has a round diamond in the center and 4 small round ones down each side. I held the ring under a black light and one of the small stones down the side illuminated into a blue color. The rest did not. It is very pretty and certainly appears real, however I am wondering if there is some way I can tell myself (besides having it appraised). The band is 14K gold and reads "14K SR" That is all. Also, if you look at it very closely, you can see a black mark inside the diamond...it doesn't appear to rub off and it is very very small, almost impossible to see. Thank you for your help.

Hey there. I don't think there is any way to tell by just looking at it...unless you bring it to a professional....The dark spot could be a little carbon spot...so a good sign...also, the glow could be b/c that one little diamond has some (SPELLING HERE!!!! UGH) flourescence..(whatever.. .my spelling stinks)...go get it appraised.!

Most pawn shops will not sell Cubic Zirconia...
I always have the pawn shop use their diamond tester on any rings I purchase...They usually have one on hand. SO- chances are that it is real- especially since you can see a carbon spot. If not- ah well, just enjoy it!! |
